After a 16-month hiatus from red-ball cricket, Rishabh Pant made his return in the Duleep Trophy, representing India B. Unfortunately, his comeback did not go as planned, as he was dismissed for just 7 runs against India A at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

This disappointing start highlighted the challenge of transitioning back into red-ball cricket, especially with high expectations placed on Pant’s shoulders.

India’s upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh will be a crucial opportunity for Pant to regain form and solidify his spot in the Indian Test squad. With the prestigious Border-Gavaskar Trophy set for November in Australia, Pant will be looking to impress selectors.

India’s schedule is packed with 10 Tests over the next five months, including three matches against New Zealand at home before heading to Australia.

Rishabh Pant’s Wants India To Avoid Complacency

Pant has urged Team India to avoid complacency, emphasising the importance of maintaining intensity regardless of the opponent.

“As the Indian cricket team, we focus solely on our own standards and how we can improve. Regardless of the opposition, we strive to play with the same intensity and give our 100 percent every single day,” he said.

He pointed out that the gap between international teams has significantly narrowed, meaning no series can be taken lightly.

"Pressure will always be there because in international cricket, you can't take any series lightly. The margin between winning and losing is very small, and nowadays, the gap between international teams isn't much either,” he further said.

As Bangladesh comes off a historic series win against Pakistan at Rawalpindi, Pant's caution is timely. His message is clear: Team India must bring their best game forward, as complacency in modern cricket can lead to unexpected results.

India will play their first Test match against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, starting on September 19.
