In the latest developments around IPL 2025, there are reports that IPL 2024's finalists Sunrisers Hyderabad are planning to release their star bowler Umran Malik ahead of the next season.

Notably, Umran made his debut for the Men in Orange in 2021 and rose to fame for his speed. SRH retained the right-arm seamer for 4 crores in the following season and groomed him to become a future bowling sensation.

However, Umran's performance declined and the Jammu-Express played just one game in 2024. Nonetheless, the report from News24 Sports mentioned that several teams have shown interest in signing Malik for IPL 2025.

Malik has been wayward with his line and length and his poor economy is one of the reasons why the franchise looked for alternatives and he had to spend most of his season on the bench.

Looking at his IPL career, Malik featured for SRH in 2021 where he took two wickets in three games. 2022 was his best year as he featured in 14 games and took 22 wickets. However, since 2023, his downfall began and in the last two seasons, he has featured in just nine games.

By releasing Umran, SRH will free up four crores ahead of IPL 2025 auction. Meanwhile, there are also reports that BCCI might increase the salary cap to 120 crores from current 90 crores for IPL 2025.
