On Saturday, the Murrayfield DAFS Cricket Club reported that their players endured a mix of sexist, homophobic, and racist abuse during a match against Stewart's Melville Cricket Club at Roseburn Park, Scotland. This incident coincided with football fans heading to a nearby friendly match between Rangers and Manchester United.

The cricket match, part of the East of Scotland Cricket Association division seven, was abandoned due to the abuse. Additionally, two cricket players were reportedly assaulted, yet police, who were present nearby, did not intervene.

Police Scotland investigating the abuse

Police Scotland confirmed they are investigating the abuse allegations but stated they had not received any complaints regarding their inaction.

Murrayfield DAFS expressed their dismay on X, condemning the abuse and highlighting the police's lack of response despite being only 50 yards away.

"Very upset that our 4th team had to abandon their game today due to a combination of sexist, homophobic, and racist abuse at Roseburn Park outside Murrayfield Stadium today against Stewart's Melville Cricket Club," the club posted.

They added that two instances of physical assault were also reported and criticized the police for refusing to help when approached by players. Murrayfield DAFS announced their intention to file a formal complaint with Police Scotland and other relevant authorities.
