Experienced fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman is doubtful for the upcoming International League T20 (ILT20) season as the tournament is set to clash with the Bangladesh Premier League. Recently, Mustafizur bagged a lucrative deal with Dubai Capitals; however, his participation in the tournament has been jeopardised due to its clash with Bangladesh's premier T20 competition.
Mustafizur's ILT20 Participation Depends On BPL Schedule
As per the latest update, neither the ILT20 nor the BPL schedule has been finalised. However, it's expected that both these tournaments will be played in the December-January window.
According to The Daily Star's report, ILT20 2025 will be conducted from December 2 to January 4, with the BPL likely to be scheduled in the same time frame.
Therefore, considering Mustafizur Rahman is one of the top cricketers from Bangladesh, the BCB is unlikely to give him an NOC to skip the BPL and participate in the ILT20.
In such a scenario, Mustafizur's maiden ILT20 participation could remain unfufilled if the tournament is held in the same cricketing window as the BPL.
"If the BPL begins at a later date, his [Mustafizur's] chances of appearing in the ILT20 will increase. But if it clashes [with BPL], he would not be able to play. When the deal was made, BPL's dates were not finalised. We can't be certain about his chances of appearing in ILT20 [even if BPL starts in late December] until BPL schedules are finalised," a BCB official was quoted as saying by The Daily Star.
Mustafizur Rahman's ability to hit the deck and deceive the batters with slow balls and cutters makes him a valuable asset in the middle and death overs in T20 cricket. He is one of the most successful bowlers in BPL history, having bagged 105 scalps in 82 matches at a superb economy of 7.14.
