BCCI secretary and ACC president Jay Shah is set to become the next ICC chairman unopposed if he wishes to contest for his elite post.

The International Council of Cricket (ICC) will have its AGM later this month and as per reports from Cricbuzz, Jay Shah is the frontrunner to replace the current ICC chairman Greg Barclay. However, Shah will not be elected before November 2024.

Barclay has held the position for more than three years and if Shah does succeed him, he will become the youngest ICC chairman. He will also be the 3rd Indian after N Srinivasan and Shashank Manohar to hold this position.

However, Shah also faces a challenge as he will have to move to Dubai, the headquarters of ICC. There were also speculations that ICC would move its headquarters to Mumbai but the Cricbuzz report has squashed such rumours.

Talking about Jay Shah, started his career as an executive board member of the Central Board of Cricket, Ahmedabad in 2009 and was one of the key figures behind the Narendra Modi Stadium project.

Later he climbed the ladder and entered BCCI in 2015 as a member of the finance and marketing committees. It was in 2019 that Shah was elected as the BCCI secretary. Later in 2021, he was also appointed as president of the Asian Cricket Council.

Another strong contender for the post of  ICC chairman is Sankar Renganathan. However, if Shah becomes the next ICC president, he will will serve a three-year term and will be eligible to become BCCI president in 2028.
