Pakistan cricket has hit an all-time low. Firstly, the side faced embarrassment after an early exit from the 2023 World Cup and are now being heavily criticised for failing to reach the Super 8 round in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024.

Questions were raised over the squad selection as people criticised the lack of fitness within the side. Notably, Azam Khan was under the scanner as he failed to contribute with the bat and was of no help even in the field.

Not just Azam, but other squad members' including Babar Azam was also questioned over their depleting fitness. There were even cries of their ouster from the side.

In the latest events, Pakistan's Test head coach Jason Gillespie has addressed the concern within the team and issued a stern warning to unfit players.

Notably, Pakistan will host Bangladesh for a two-match Test series from August 21. Ahead of this upcoming series, Gillespie said that for him fitness is a top priority to have a place in the team.

"National teams are not where you still question a player's value. If there are any perceptions about a player's place, he has to change it with his performance and attitude. My mantra is that we should only have fit, robust, and strong players in the Test side because, in modern-day cricket of any format, fitness is a must," he said.

There are also reports that PCB is likely to re-introduce yo-yo Test as a criteria for selection.
