The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reportedly given more time to the inquiry committee investigating serious allegations raised by former women’s team captain Jahanara Alam. The deadline for the final report is now pushed to January 31, 2026.

The five-member committee was earlier expected to submit its findings by December 20, but the board confirmed on Sunday that the panel needs additional time to complete a thorough and fair investigation.

Jahanara Alam's misconduct case gets murkier

According to the BCB, the inquiry committee has already spoken to several individuals linked to the case and now wants to question more people and review further information before reaching a conclusion.

This is not the first extension in this case. Earlier this month, the deadline was moved after Jahanara Alam requested extra time to submit her formal written complaint.

Her legal team confirmed that the statement was eventually submitted to the board on December 4.

In its official statement, the BCB said the committee felt more time was necessary to ensure the investigation is handled properly. The board stressed that the matter is sensitive and must be examined carefully before any decision is taken.

It’s important to note that the inquiry committee is chaired by Justice Tariq ul Hakim, a former judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.

The panel was originally formed with three members on November 8, before being expanded to five to strengthen the process.

The Jahanara Alam case explained

Jahanara Alam, who now lives in Australia, has alleged that a former selector behaved inappropriately towards her during the Women’s ODI World Cup 2022.

She claimed the individual asked her uncomfortable and inappropriate questions. She also alleged misconduct by a couple of BCB officials and said she reported the issue to senior board figures at the time.

Jahanara is one of Bangladesh women’s cricket’s most experienced players, with 48 ODI wickets and 60 T20I wickets to her name.
