After Pakistan beat India in the U19 Asia Cup 2025 final, PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi was mobbed by fans in Dubai. Amid this, Naqvi received the request to appoint Sarfaraz Ahmed as the mentor of Pakistan for the T20 World Cup 2026.
Pakistan thrashed India by a massive 191 runs in the final, lifting the U19 Asia Cup for the first time in 13 years.
While the young players were the stars on the field, former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed quietly played his part from the sidelines as the team’s mentor.
Fans want Sarfaraz Ahmed back in the Pakistan team
After the match, a video from the stadium began circulating widely on social media. In the clip, an erratic Pakistani fan stops PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi as he is leaving the venue.
With visible emotion, the fan praised Sarfaraz Ahmed and said, “Sarfaraz kabhi dhoka nahi deta. He won you the Champions Trophy in 2017."
He goes on to remind Naqvi that Sarfaraz led Pakistan to the Champions Trophy title in 2017 and has now guided the Under-19 team to another major final win.
The fan then went on to request Naqvi to appoint Sarfaraz Ahmed as Pakistan’s mentor for the T20 World Cup 2026. Mohsin Naqvi, meanwhile, listened calmly, smiled, and responded with a thumbs-up gesture.
Interestingly, Sarfaraz’s connection with age-group success is not new. Back in 2004, he captained Pakistan to the U19 World Cup title, also against India.
Mohsin Naqvi ignored at U19 Asia Cup final
Meanwhile, as Pakistan clinched the U19 Asia Cup title against India, Mohsin Naqvi, as PCB and ACC chairman, arrived at the presentation ceremony only to face hostility from India.
The Indian team maintained a no-contact policy with Pakistan and ignored Naqvi to collect their runners-up medals from an ICC associate member director.
Also, neither team shook hands and continued to ignore each other throughout the game.
