After Varun Chakravarthy's sensational performance in the second T20I on Sunday (November 10) at St. George's Park against South Africa, former wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik urged the Indian team management to include leg-spinner in India’s squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.

The wrist-spinner was the player who stole the limelight with his exceptional performance with the ball on Sunday. He showcased his match-winning potential by registering career-best figures of 5/17 in four overs. However, despite his stellar performance, India narrowly lost the contest by three wickets. Nevertheless, Varun Chakravarthy’s display left a significant impact on Dinesh Karthik, who did not hold back his praise.

The former cricketer took to social media and expressed himself and heaped praises on Varun's significant contribution in the second T20I. Karthik also stated that the spinner’s unique skill set could be a decisive factor in India’s success in the Champions Trophy.

"If India don't pick VARUN CHAKRAVARTHY for the Champions Trophy , then they are making a grave error. Outstanding Bowler he is turning out to be," Dinesh Karthik wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Varun Chakravarthy's Remarkable Comeback To International Cricket

It is important to note that Varun Chakravarthy, made his T20I debut against Sri Lanka in 2021, and since then he has experienced a roller-coaster journey in international cricket. His initial rise was fueled by exceptional performances in the IPL. However, the spinner struggled to make an prolonged impact and was further excluded from the Indian team for a long time.

However, after Gautam Gambhir appointment as the head coach, he was recalled to the Indian team in October 2024. Since his return to the side he has consistently troubled batters with his variations and accuracy.

His recent stellar five-wicket haul against South Africa made him only the fifth Indian bowler to achieve such a milestone in T20Is and the third to claim a five-for on South African soil. After his consistent performance it will be interesting to see if he will be selected for the upcoming and highly anticipated Champions Trophy 2025.
