Gautam Gambhir has been the talk of the town in recent times after India's recent humiliating series loss against New Zealand. Ahead of India's next big and much-anticipated series is against Australia, Gambhir made headlines again but this time with a fiery press conference on Monday (November 11). In this conference, he addressed questions from the media ahead of India's Test series against Australia and also on India's recent series defeat at the hands of New Zealand at home.

However, the conversation took a heated turn when Gambhir was questioned about Ricky Ponting’s recent comments on Virat Kohli's form.

Ricky Ponting’s Comments On Virat Kohli's Form

Earlier, Ponting had said that he doesn't think any other top-order batter would've survived in a top international team had he scored just 2-3 centuries in the last 5 years.

"I saw a stat the other day about Virat, it said he's only scored two (three) Test hundreds in the last five years. That didn't seem right to me, but if that is right, then that is, I mean, that's a concern," Ponting had said in ICC Review.

When confronted with Ponting's observations in the recent press conference, Gambhir, known for his bold attitude, did not hold back. He dismissed the former Australian captain's concerns and defended his star players.

"What does Ponting have to do with Indian cricket? I think he should think about Australian cricket and more importantly have got no concerns whatsoever for Virat and Rohit. I think they are incredibly tough men. They've achieved a lot for Indian cricket and they will continue to achieve a lot in the future as well," said Gambhir in press conference.

Gautam Gambhir also supported Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and stated that the star players of the team are still working hard in the nets and still have that passion and hunger for runs. He stressed that the team’s veterans have shown no signs of slowing down and are hungrier than ever to bounce back.

"I think for me, the most important thing is that they still work really hard and they still passionate, they still want to achieve a lot more and that is something which is very important. The hunger in that dressing room is incredibly important for me. And for the entire group of people as well in that dressing in dressing rooms. And I feel there is a lot of hunger and especially after what has happened in the last series," Gambhir told the media.

As India gears up to face Australia, definitely it is important to mention that the spotlight will undoubtedly be on how Kohli and Rohit Sharma perform under pressure.
