In a sudden turn of events, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir announced that in case of Rohit Sharma's absence from the Border Gavaskar series, Jasprit Bumrah will replace him as captain. But is leadership Bumrah's strongest suit?? Let's find out.

Jasprit Bumrah arrived in Test cricket in 2018 and very soon became one of the most impactful and dangerous fast bowlers in the world. At any stage of the game, his ability to take wickets makes him a valuable asset which India cherishes so deeply.

He was officially named India's vice-captain in Test format ahead of the home series against New Zealand, and the pacer will likely have an opportunity to don the captaincy coat in the near future.

Rohit Sharma is likely to miss the opening Test against Australia in Perth due to personal responsibilities, and head coach Gautam Gambhir confirmed that Jasprit Bumrah will lead the side in case of the regular skipper's absence.

Jasprit Bumrah’s captaincy record in Test cricket

Jasprit Bumrah made his debut as Test captain in 2022. Days leading up to the 5th Test against England in Birmingham, Rohit Sharma got Covid disease and was unable to recover. Bumrah replaced him and became the first fast bowler since former legend Kapil Dev to lead India in the red ball format.
