The Indian team have made it to the top of the World Test Championship table for the cycle 2023-25 after their historic win in Cape Town over South Africa. The South African team will find themselves in the second spot after the concluded Test series against India.

The Indian team came with the hope of winning the series for the first time on South African soil, but Dean Elgar showcased his brilliance in his farewell series, scoring 185 and helping the Proteas win the first Test with an innings.

However, India have made an impeccable comeback, bowling out the hosts for just 55 runs in the first innings and went on to win the game in the second session of Day 2, as this game became the shortest Test ever with the result coming out in just 107 overs.

The Rohit Sharma-led group was in the middle of the points table after one defeat, but with this historic win, they have climbed up and are sitting at the top of the table. On the other hand, Australia have already won two Tests on the trott against Pakistan in the ongoing Test series in Australia.

Here's how the World Test Championship points table looks after India rattled the Proteas in Cape Town:

In the last two World Test Championship cycles, India have managed to reach the finals both times but could not win the championship. As the Indian team moves forward in the ongoing cycle, they will be facing England in the five-match Test series in India, which will be starting from 25th January in Hyderabad.

With two wins, one draw and one loss, India are up with 54.16% and 26 points. The series against England remains a tough one for the coming months, which can turn into a hurdle for India in reaching another WTC Final.
