A lot rode on Rohit Sharma's captaincy in the second Test at Cape Town after India suffered a drubbing in the Centurion encounter against South Africa by an innings and 32 runs.

Indian bowlers helped by Sharma's excellent leadership skills, witnessed the visitors win the Newlands Test by seven wickets, handing the former Mumbai Indians skipper a rare win.

With this win, Sharma became the first-ever Asian captain to win a Test at Cape Town, which has been considered a fortress for the home side against subcontinental teams. India prior to today's win, had managed two draws and lost three Tests at Cape Town since 1993.

This is also India's fifth-best Test win in South Africa. The Test finished in just under two days, with bowlers picking up 33 wickets, where South Africa batter twice, and India completed their first innings.

India needed 79 runs to win a memorable match and ensure they level the series 1-1. The Indian captain scored the winning run for India, remaining unbeaten on 17*, along with Shreyas Iyer, who scored 4* off 6.

With this, Sharma became the second Indian captain after MS Dhoni (2010-2011) to draw a series in South Africa.

Personally for Sharma, the tour did not pan well, with the opener scoring just 61 runs in two matches, which is far below his set standards.
