Iftikhar Ahmed, the Pakistan cricketer is known for his power-hitting and handy off-breaks. His knack of delivering both with the bat and ball has made him a reliable all-round option for Pakistan in white-ball cricket. However, he has now come up with a shocking remark on his own batting where he has mentioned that he considers himself as a tailender and not as a middle-order batter or as an all-rounder.

Tailenders are generally bowlers who have very little idea about batting and mostly bat at numbers 9, 10 or 11. Iftikhar Ahmed is currently getting ready for Pakistan's brand-new version of the domestic 50-over competition, the Champions One-Day Cup. In a video that has gone viral, a journalist is seen asking Iftikhar about his role in the team as a middle-order batter.

The Pakistan batter in reply bluntly mentions that he is not a middle-order batter as he bats at number 7 or number 8. He then goes onto mention that he considers himself a tailender and not even an all-rounder which has left the journalist asking the question completely stumped. It is not clear whether the remarks were made sarcastically or not, but it has baffled cricket fans around the world.

Stats Prove Iftikhar Ahmed's Credentials As An All-Rounder

Regardless of the comments made by the cricketer, his stats has proved over the years that he is a handy all-rounder. Iftikhar has an average of 38 in ODIs with bat in hand and has also picked 16 wickets.

He also played a crucial role in Pakistan's ride to the final of the T20 World Cup 2022 with his all-round skills and has an average of over 40 in first-class and List A cricket which surely does not go with the title of 'tailender' he has used for himself ahead of Champions One-Day Cup.

The right-handed batter has also batted 25 times at number 5 in the 55 innings while he has also batted at number 4 for Pakistan. He has been used as a floater by Pakistan with his ability to take the game on right from the ball one, and surely his remarks of being a tailender do not go in unison with his on-field antics.

Iftikhar will be playing for Wolves in the tournament and will feature in the curtain-raiser against Panthers on September 12.
