Shubman Gill has consistently impressed cricket fans when opening for Team India. The 26-year-old batter has been pivotal in India's success, especially in red-ball cricket. However, his performance at No. 3 has not mirrored his success as an opener.

In an exclusive interview with JioCinema, Gill candidly discussed the difficulties he faced when batting lower in the order. He stated,

"Quite often, when you’re playing in a different position, everyone knows your potential, but you still have to prove yourself. In the initial matches when I played as number three, I couldn’t perform well – against West Indies and South Africa. I was getting good starts, scoring 20s and 30s, but I wasn’t able to convert them. When I returned, I knew I had to turn these performances around. Moving forward, my goal is to convert my fifties into big hundreds."

Shubman Gill, while batting at No. 3 in Tests, has amassed 618 runs in 10 matches at an average of 41.20. However, his overall performances have been more notable as an opener for Team India, where he has scored 846 runs in 14 matches at an average of 36.78.

Shubman Gill Praises Bangladesh's Pacers And Middle -Order Batters

Shubman Gill also touched upon the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. He emphasised that no international team should be underestimated, highlighting Bangladesh's recent performance against Pakistan.

"I don’t think you can underestimate any international side. The kind of cricket Bangladesh has played in the last couple of months, especially in Pakistan, has been impressive. Their fast bowlers and the way their middle-order batters have absorbed pressure shouldn’t be disregarded. So, I believe it will be an interesting and intriguing contest."

The upcoming series is expected to be competitive, and Gill is part of India's 16-member squad for the two-match Test series at home starting on September 19.
