Shakib Al Hasan, the star Bangladesh all-rounder is all set to play for Surrey in County Championship Division One 2024 ahead of the all-important Test series against India. He will be playing only game against Somerset and has decided to skip the training camp organised in Mirpur for Bangladesh players ahead of India series.

The talismanic cricketer has been on the road since the political turmoil in Bangladesh and recently travelled directly to Pakistan from Canada for the two-match Test series. He is now expected to directly join the Bangladesh team in India, and it seems that the all-rounder is looking for more game-time in red-ball cricket ahead of a tough assignment in India.

Shakib Al Hasan showed decent form in Bangladesh's historic Test series win, especially with the ball, but could not contribute much with the bat. The English conditions will provide him a good opportunity to test his batting and gain confidence ahead of the series against India where he would be needed to contribute more with the bat.

Shakib Al Hasan's Addition A Big Boost For Surrey

Alec Stewart, Surrey's director of cricket welcomed Shakib's addition to their squad with some big English players missing out due to national duty. Surrey will also miss the services of Indian batter Sai Sudharsan who scored a century in the last game, and Shakib is effectively his replacement as an overseas player.

"Shakib brings a wealth of experience and outstanding skill with bat and ball and we look forward to seeing what he can do for Surrey," Alec Stewart after Bangladesh all-rounder's signing.

Surrey are currently at the top of the table in the County Championship with seven wins in 11 matches while Somerset, their opponents in the next game are ranked second with four wins and one loss in 11 matches. Earlier this season, the game between the two sides ended in a draw and Surrey would be hoping that the addition of Shakib Al Hasan provides them the extra edge to go for an outright win this time around.
