England have been dealt a huge blow with regular skipper, Jos Buttler getting ruled out of the ODI series against Australia. Buttler suffered a right calf injury, and subsequently missed the T20I leg of the tour as well.

In his place, Harry Brook, the Yorkshire batter has been appointed as the ODI skipper for the upcoming series.

The calf injury forced Buttler to miss The Hundred and the T20I series against the Aussies. The 34-year-old has not recovered on time, so the English camp is not taking any risk with their regular skipper.

Buttler’s injury meant that Brook gets his chance to lead the England ODI team. The right-handed batter made his ODI debut 18 months ago, and now gets the big opportunity to steer England to a series win against their arch-rivals, Australia.

The 25-year-old has made a name for himself in the Test and T20I format but is yet to justify his skills in the 50-over format, where he averages 29.07 after 15 innings. However, he recently led the Northern Superchargers in The Hundred and has got a taste of captaincy.

Josh Hull also ruled out, Livingstone drafted in

The 6ft 7 inches tall, Josh Hull has also been ruled out of the series due to a quad injury. The pacer looked impressive in the Test match against Sri Lanka but has now been put on the sidelines.

Meanwhile, Liam Livingstone, who starred for England in the 2nd T20I has been drafted in the side. The first ODI takes place at Trent Bridge on Thursday, 19 September.
