Leicestershire fast bowler Josh Hull has been included in England squad for the remainder of their ongoing home Test series against Sri Lanka in place of injured Mark Wood. The 6ft 7inch cricketer recently turned up for the Manchester Originals franchise in The Hundred Men’s 2024 season.

Hull also shattered the visiting Sri Lankan party in a tour match earlier this month at Worcester by picking up five wickets across both innings for England Lions. As the lanky speedster braces himself for a potential international debut, here at OneCricket, we take a brief look at his cricketing journey so far.

Josh Hull's Career So Far

Josh Hull was born in August 2004 in Cambridgeshire, England. At the age of 18 in 2022, he joined Leicestershire’s senior ranks after graduating from their club academy system.

Hull made his first-class debut for Leicestershire the following year in April 2023 during the County Championship Division Two season. The speedster celebrated the occasion by picking up four Yorkshire wickets across both innings at Leeds, in a match-winning cause no less.

To date, he has featured in nine first-class matches, with his most recent appearance being a four-day tour match between England Lions and Sri Lanka in August 2024. He picked up five wickets in the match and was subsequently called up as Mark Wood’s replacement in the English international team for the concurrent Test series against Sri Lanka.

The 6-foot-7-inch fast bowler has also played 21 T20 matches so far in his career, which includes 19 matches for Leicestershire in Vitality T20 Blast and another two for the Manchester Originals in The Hundred. As of now, it remains to be seen if Josh Hull can utilize his newfound opportunity for England to make a career-changing path for his future.
