England legend Stuart Broad has showered high praise on Harry Brook, likening him to former Test captain Joe Root, one of England's greatest red-ball players. 

Broad's comparison underscores Brook's potential and performance, especially after a notable innings in the ongoing Test match against Sri Lanka.

On Day 2 of the first Test at Manchester, Harry Brook scored a stylish 56 off 73 balls, helping to stabilize the England innings after a challenging start. England found themselves in a precarious position at 67/3, but Brook's innings, featuring four boundaries, was crucial in turning the tide. 

His contribution was vital, as he built a solid partnership with Joe Root, adding 58 runs before combining for 62 more with Jamie Smith.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Stuart Broad shared his admiration for Brook, stating, 

“We had a really good summer when he came around the whole Test summer with us, and I remember a net session at Harry where he showcased his exceptional ability. His powerful hitting through mid-wicket reminded me of Kevin Pietersen.”

Broad further emphasized Brook's potential, saying, “Jimmy and I played with him at Yorkshire and we left the press conference thinking he’s the next Root… When he came into the Test side, he doesn’t overcomplicate anything.”

England lead by 47 runs

Talking about the match, Sri Lanka were dismissed for 236 in their first innings, with Chris Woakes and Shoaib Bashir each claiming three wickets. 

England, in response, are 283/6, leading by 47 runs with Brook contributing 56 and Jamie Smith not out on 72. Sri Lanka’s bowlers, Jayasiriya and Fernando, have also made significant impacts with their performances.
