Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto must have woken up on cloud nine n Wednesday, September 4, following a night of restful sleep cradling the most cherished prize of his captaincy career. On Tuesday, Bangladesh etched their name into history books with a stunning 2-0 Test series victory over Pakistan, marking their first-ever Test series win against the Men in Green.

The crowning moment came when Bangladesh sealed the series in Rawalpindi on Tuesday, winning by six wickets in the second Test.

Their dominant performance was already set in motion with a comprehensive 10-wicket win in the first Test. The series win broke a 12-game winless streak Bangladesh held against Pakistan, making it a moment to savour.

To commemorate the historic achievement, Shanto shared a heartwarming photo of himself on Facebook, sleeping beside the elusive trophy, with a simple caption, 'Good morning.'

The image not only captured the euphoria of the victory but was symbolic of a dream finally realized after years of struggle on the Test stage.

Despite his captaincy success, Shanto had a modest run with the bat, scoring 16, 4, and 38 across the series. However, his leadership was instrumental in steering the team to a landmark series sweep.

Bangladesh eyeing another giant in India

But there’s no rest for the weary. Fresh off the back of this historic achievement, Shanto has set his sights on another colossal challenge—India.

Bangladesh will face India in a two-match Test series starting September 19 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Historically, Bangladesh has struggled against their neighbours, losing 11 of 13 matches, with the remaining two ending in draws. Yet, with their newfound momentum, Shanto and his men will be determined to rewrite the script once again.

Having already conquered Pakistan, the Tigers will be gearing up to prove that their success wasn’t just a flash in the pan. The upcoming Test series against India represents a golden opportunity for Bangladesh to continue their upward trajectory.
