Cricket is touted as the gentleman's game and the sport often stays away from engaging in controversial topics. However, the fans, on few occasions, have marred cricket games by bringing politics to the ground.
Free Palestine slogans during WCL 2024
In the latest events, a video has gone viral on the internet where a Pakistan journalist shared a clip of fans chanting 'Free Palestine' slogans in Edgbaston, England. The video appears to be from the recently concluded World Championship of Legends 2024.
"Fans shouting Free Palestine recently at Edgbaston," tweeted a PAK journalist.
Further, the journalist shared another video, where the police personnel present in the stadium acted swiftly and stopped the fans from chanting the slogans and waiving the Palestine flag.
It is not the first time that a cricket match was hindered because of such slogans. Even during India's 2023 World Cup final against Australia, a pro-Palestine supporter entered the ground.
Also, recently, a pitch invader hindered the England-Pakistan 2nd T20I as he entered the ground with the Palestine flag.
Talking about the World Championship of Legends, India Champions emerged victorious as they beat Pakistan Champions in the final by 5 wickets courtesy of a fifty from Ambati Rayudu that saw him win the player of the match award in the finals.
