The high-intensity ICC World Cup 2023 final between India and Australia faced a brief interruption when a pitch invader halted the match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The incident occurred in the 14th over, with India at 92/3 with Kohli and KL Rahul at the crease when a spectator successfully evaded the security cordon and entered the field.

The fan sported a t-shirt with the message "Stop bombing Palestine" and carried a Palestine flag, with the flag also featured on his face mask. Identifying himself as John from Australia, the invader expressed support for Palestine, specifically stating, "I came to meet Virat Kohli."

Kohli appeared displeased with the intrusion, prompting swift action from security to apprehend the invader. Police in Ahmedabad subsequently arrested the fan for breaching security protocols. The game resumed shortly after the incident, with Kohli and Rahul using the unscheduled break to discuss the proceedings.

In a parallel incident, the notorious pitch invader known as "Jarvo" disrupted India's first World Cup game against Australia in Chennai. Strikingly, he also engaged in conversation with Virat Kohli, although during that encounter, Kohli approached him, while in this case, John approached Kohli to convey a message.

India's talismanic batter Kohli achieved the ninth fifty-plus score of the tournament but was dismissed shortly after, scoring 54 before being bowled by Australia's captain Pat Cummins. Kohli recorded his fifth consecutive score of fifty or more in the tournament, taking 56 balls with four fours.

Coming to the game, Australia, fielding an unchanged team, won the toss and elected to bowl first on a sluggish Ahmedabad wicket. Half-centuries from KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and a 47 from skipper Rohit Sharma propelled India to a total of 240 in their allotted fifty overs.
