Brief Scores: Pakistan Champions: 156-6 (20 overs) [Shoaib Malik: 41 (36), Kamran Akmal: 24 (19); Anureet Singh 3/43 (4), Irfan Pathan 1/12 (3)] lost to India Champions: 159-5 (19.1 overs) [Ambati Rayudu: 50 (30), Gurkeerat Singh Mann: 34 (33)] by five wickets.

India Champions, having finished fourth at the end of the group stage, jolted arch-rivals Pakistan in the final to win the 2024 edition of the World Championship of Legends at Birmingham’s Edgbaston Stadium.

Anureet Singh limits Shoaib Malik-anchored PAK to 156

India Champions fast bowler Anureet Singh set the tune early for his side by striking in his opening over to remove Sharjeel Khan. Sohaib Maqsood (21 off 12 balls) followed suite a few overs later by mistiming one off Vinay Kumar, while opener Kamran Akmal (19-ball 24) and captain Younis Khan (seven runs off 11 balls) failed to capitalise on their starts as Pakistan Champions slipped to 79-4 in 11.3 overs.

Battle-hardened Shoaib Malik anchored the Pakistan Champions innings by crafting 41 runs from 36 balls and shared a 47-run partnership with Aamer Yamin.

After claiming a wicket in his first over, Anureet Singh returned to add two more to his tally to finish with figures of 3-43. Pawan Negi and Irfan Pathan also chipped in with a wicket each alongside Vinay Kumar to limit Pakistan Champions to 156-6 from 20 overs.

Rayudu lays base, Yuvraj seals chase as India wins final

Pakistan Champions new-ball speedster Aamer Yamin dismissed Indian opener Robin Uthappa and number three Suresh Raina in quick succession within the first three overs of the run-chase. Amidst top-order setback, Ambati Rayudu laid out the groundwork of a clinical win by adding 50 runs to the total from just 30 deliveries.

Rayudu also shared a match-defining 60-run partnership with Gurkeerat Singh Mann (34 from 33 balls) before Yusuf Pathan blasted three sixes in his 16-ball 30-run cameo.

Captain Yuvraj Singh negotiated Saeed Ajmal (1-25) and Wahab Riaz (1-22) threat to take India Champions home with five wickets and five balls to spare to lift the 2024 World Championship of Legends trophy.

Interestingly, India Champions lost their earlier bout to Pakistan during the league stage by 68 runs, and barely managed to qualify for the semifinals by finishing fourth on the six-team points table.
