In a recent development, England fast bowler Brydon Carse has withdrawn from this year’s The Hundred competition following medical advice after a gruelling Test series against India. The Northern Superchargers have named Lancashire’s Mitchell Stanley as his replacement for the upcoming tournament.
Brydon Carse, who played four Tests in the recently concluded 2-2 series against India, has been managing a persistent toe injury that once led him to consider amputation. The 30-year-old took nine wickets in the series but missed the final Test at The Oval.
Carse Keen To Keep A Watch Despite Unavailability
Confirming his unavailability for the tournament, Carse shared that he will be keenly following the tournament while being in the sidelines.
"At the end of a long series against India and following consultation with the medical staff, I am sadly not able to play for Northern Superchargers in The Hundred this year. I look forward to watching on from the sidelines and to representing the team again in the future," Carse said in an official statement.
The South African-born seamer has battled foot issues since England’s white-ball tour of India earlier this year, which also forced him to miss the Champions Trophy. Despite the setbacks, Carse played a crucial role in the Test series, including a key spell at Lord’s where he dismissed Karun Nair and Shubman Gill in quick succession.
Carse's Impressive T20 Career
The 2021 T20 debutant has a decorated career in bowling. While he was set to play his third season for The Hundred this year, his performances in the T20 Blast and SA 20 have also been impressive.
Across 51 matches in the Blast, Carse has taken 27 wickets from 44 innings, with a best bowling figure of 3/30. Despite his pace and aggression, he has struggled for consistency, averaging 44.11 with an economy of 8.87.
In The Hundred, he picked up five wickets in 13 matches, maintaining an economy of 10.88. Carse also played in the SA20 league, where he claimed five wickets from eight innings at an average of 39.80.
