Brydon Carse Set To Miss Match Against Afghanistan [Source: AP]
England’s Champions Trophy campaign has taken a serious hit. Fast bowler Brydon Carse is expected to miss the upcoming match against Afghanistan on 26 February and could be out for the rest of the tournament.
This news comes at the worst possible time for England, who are already on shaky ground after a tough loss to Australia in their opening match. Now, with only two games left in the group stage, every match is a must-win if they want to stay in the running for the semifinals.
Why Is Brydon Carse Missing Out?
Brydon Carse didn’t attend training on Monday, making it unlikely that England will risk playing him in Wednesday’s crucial match at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The issue? A painful blister on his left foot that has been bothering him for a while.
The 29-year-old had already missed two ODIs against India due to this same blister, which needed stitches. Though the stitches were removed in time for him to play against Australia, Carse struggled during the match and proved to be expensive for his team.
Who Will Replace Brydon Carse?
With England’s semifinal hopes hanging by a thread, Jamie Overton is expected to step into Carse’s place for the upcoming do-or-die match against Afghanistan.
With their tournament hopes on thin ice, England can’t afford any more setbacks. Their chances of making it to the semi-finals look vague. The team needs to pull off a great win against Afghanistan and South Africa. However, if they defeat both sides, they might make it to the semi-finals.
