India’s pace attack played a pivotal role in their hard-fought 2-2 Test series draw against England, with Mohammed Siraj emerging as the leading wicket-taker. However, former Australian cricketer Brad Haddin made a bold claim about Jasprit Bumrah’s contributions, suggesting the star pacer didn’t single-handedly win any matches on the tour.
Bumrah, who was rested for the fifth Test due to workload management, picked up 14 wickets in three games. Meanwhile, Siraj featured in all five Tests, finishing with 23 scalps and showcasing his ability to lead the attack with 185.3 overs of bowling in the series.
Haddin Points Fingers At Bumrah's Contributions
Brad Haddin, talking on Siraj's unbelievable effort in the series, praised the bowler while questioning Jasprit Bumrah's contributions in the series.
"India can take a lot out of this — that they can still play without Bumrah. Life goes on if the other bowlers find a way. They have so much talent over there in India. But he didn’t win a Test match," Haddin said on the YouTube channel LiSTNR Sport.
Haddin reserved high praise for Siraj, highlighting his aggressive mindset and willingness to take responsibility in crucial moments.
"I think Siraj likes being the leader of the attack. He’s one of those guys who wants the ball in big situations. Yes, he makes mistakes, but he doesn’t shy away from the occasion. If you have players like that, who aren’t afraid to make mistakes, who can get under the skin of the opposition because of how much they want to be involved, those are the guys you want," Haddin added.
Haddin Ignores Siraj's Mistakes
Despite a dropped catch in the final Test, Haddin emphasised that Mohammed Siraj’s overall performance overshadowed the error.
"Mohammed Siraj wanted the ball in that last hour of play. There’s no way in the world he didn’t want to bowl every over to win the game. Yes, he dropped a catch — that was a bad miss. Your details have to be better when you’re catching in those moments. But that one moment didn’t define his performance in the Test match. We’re not even talking about that catch anymore," Haddin concluded.
With Bumrah’s workload being carefully managed, Siraj’s rise as a frontline bowler provides India with a strong pace option moving forward. In the upcoming Asia Cup too, Bumrah is facing the risk of a snub while Siraj is expected to lead the pace battery.
