The England and Wales Cricket Board is calling the fifth edition of The Hundred the transitional season. With new owners stepping into the scene, it is expected that the franchise-based tournament from England will gain commercial success.

As reported by The Telegraph, the English players will be diving straight into The Hundred. It was generally expected that the players who played in the intense Test series against India would be taking a rest.

Increased Pay For The English Test Players

But as of the latest reports, with about £25,000 available per game, the players are willing to take part as early as possible. Notably, the pay in the Hundred is much higher than the match fee of the Test matches, which is around £15,000 per game.

For this edition of the tournament, the highest pay bracket for the players in the men's competition has risen from £125,000 to £200,000. Taking the group stage to be an eight-match competition, each player will receive payment for their participation.

The report from the Telegraph claims that this higher pay, along with greater expectations from the franchise, has influenced the players' decision to take part in the tournament after the gruelling five-match Test series.

When Will The English Players Be Back In Action?

Talking about the players who were a part of the Test team, Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell will be seen in action for the Birmingham Phoenix on Friday, while Joe Root is a part of the Trent Rockets, who will be facing the Phoenix. We can also see other stars from the Test team, Harry Brook and Zak Crawley, in action on Thursday for the Northern Superchargers.

There were a lot of talks about Jamie Smith's workload during the India series. With the English keeper playing his role for more than 1,000 overs, it is expected that he will miss one match and will be back in action from Saturday. On the other hand, the stand-in skipper of the Oval Test, Ollie Pope, is expected to return on Monday.

As for the bowlers, England has not yet confirmed their return. Chris Woakes suffered a serious shoulder injury during the last Test and is out of the tournament. Brydon Carse is also not expected to be back for a couple of weeks. However, Jofra Archer and England's highest wicket-taker in the India Test series, Josh Tongue, will be seen back on the field soon.
