Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the 5-time IPL winners, were in the eye of a storm as reports stated that they were considering releasing 5 big players before the IPL 2026 mini-auction.

The players in the list, reportedly, were Sam Curran, Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi, and Devon Conway, names that shook the fans to their core.

Many were particularly shocked to see Curran and Conway mentioned, as both have been key match-winners for CSK in past seasons.

CSK responds to auction buzz

Within hours, social media was buzzing with speculation, memes, even trending hashtags regarding a potential team overhaul.

However, CSK handled the situation in their trademark witty style. Rather than making a big announcement statement, the franchise just updated its bio on X (formerly known as Twitter) to state, "Nothing official till you see it here."

Before this bio update, CSK had also posted another tongue-in-cheek tweet that read, “Don’t worry, we’ve updated the bio 😉.”

That post quickly went viral, gaining over 17,000 likes and hundreds of retweets within hours. Fans loved the humorous response, praising the franchise for addressing the situation in such a classy and confident manner.

CSK will likely be busy at the IPL 2026 auction table

Despite this lighthearted denial, there’s still talk that some reshuffling could take place ahead of the auction. After Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement from the IPL freed up nearly INR 9.75 crore, the management is believed to be exploring new options to rebuild their squad.

The upcoming IPL 2026 auction, likely to take place in mid-December, will be crucial for CSK. The retention deadline of November 15 will reveal which players the team decides to keep and whether any of the rumours had a hint of truth.

CSK had a tough 2025 season, managing just four wins in 14 matches and finishing at the bottom of the table, an unusual sight for one of the league’s most consistent teams. Hence, fans hope that the franchise comes back stronger, and the captain Ruturaj Gaikwad is expected to head a rejuvenated and more resolute team.
