Shubman Gill, the young Indian star missed out on the opening Test in Perth due to an injury, and now is doubtful for the second Test as well that is scheduled to start on 6th of December at the Adelaide Oval. It is a pink-balll Test and India would be playing a practice game on 30th of November, however, Gill is certain to miss that game as he is yet to recover from the injury according to an report from Times of India.
The report mentions that Gill was advised to take rest of 10-14 days after a blow on his left thumb during the intra-squad game. It was expected that he will get ready for the second Test as their is a considerable gap between the opening two Test, but team management looks in no hurry to rush their regular number 3 at the moment.
KL Rahul Might Bat At 3 In Absence Of Shubman Gill
The concern over Shubman Gill is that even if he gets fit to bat till the second Test, he would be coming into the Test with lack of practice under his belt, and it could backfire in the game.
"The right-handed batter has been advised to rest for a couple of weeks and will require some match practice before being considered for selection. "Gill was advised a 10-14 day rest by the medical specialist after suffering that injury. He won't play in the practice match on the weekend, and is doubtful at the moment for the second Test too. Let's see how much his injury has healed, how his finger feels. Even after it has healed, he'll need some quality practice before playing a Test match", a source told TOI.
In the absence of Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma, India went with KL Rahul as an opener while Devdutt Padikkal batted at 3. Rahul did brilliantly and played a big role in India's win while Padikkal could not make much of an impact. Now, with Rohit Sharma, coming back for the Day-Night Test, Rahul may fit in at 3, if Shubman Gill fails to make it to the XI.
