India did the unthinkable and thrashed Australia in the Perth Test to take a 1-0 lead in the 5-match series. This was a complete performance from Jasprit Bumrah's team as they thoroughly outplayed the home side and won the match by 295 runs.
It was Jasprit Bumrah's leadership which inspired India to a famous win and now with Rohit Sharma back in the side, the question arises, should Bumrah step aside and let Rohit take over as captain? We don't think so. Hence, here are key reasons as to why Rohit shouldn't captain India for the remainder of the series.
Bumrah won the match with an inexperienced squad
Barring him, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant, most of the players in the starting XI had little or no experience of playing in Australian conditions and yet, they defeated Australia at a venue where they had won 4 previous encounters. India also had two debutants in Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy and it made job a bit more tougher for the captain.
Perth is known as a batters' nightmare and a bowlers' paradise. Despite getting bundled out for 150 in their first innings, Bumrah led from the front and took a 5-wicket haul which set the tone for India's win.
Rohit had a disastrous last Test series as India captain
Remember India suffered a 3-0 whitewash at the hands of the New Zealand side? It was just this month and that Indian side was led by Rohit Sharma. He is a supreme leader in the white-ball cricket and has proven his credentials time and again, however, something goes off in red-ball cricket.
He looked out of sorts against an inexperienced Kiwi side as the Tom Latham side outplayed his team and inflicted a series whitewash.
Why change the winning combination?
Under Bumrah's leadership, there was a different energy which the team had. It brought back the memories of Virat Kohli's Test captaincy when he used to dominate the Australian side.
The team looked well oiled and ths inspiration was given by captain Bumrah. Hence, the question arises, why change something which worked previously? Bumrah did the hard work in the first Test and the momentum is with the Indian side. He should be rewarded with captaincy for his stellar work.
