Mystery Around Champions Trophy 2025 Continues (Source:@HassanAbbasian/X.com)
The suspense around Champions Trophy 2025 is all set to end on Friday, 29th of November according to a report from Cricket Pakistan. The decision will be taken in the Board's meeting of ICC and according to the report, if PCB does not agree to the hybrid model, ICC is likely to move the tournament out of Pakistan.
ICC is ready to provide Pakistan with financial incentives to compensate for the losses that will occur due to the hybrid model or even when the tournament is completely taken out of the country. PCB have recently upgraded their stadiums for the Champions Trophy 2025, but with India not ready to travel, the mystery around tournament's schedule and venue has caught the attention of the cricket world.
According to the tentative schedule, Champions Trophy is slated to start on 19th of February and end on March 9, and all India matches were scheduled to played in Lahore. However, with India not ready to travel now, the practical solution for PCB remains that they allow India to play their games at other venue, and UAE is one of the favourites to host those games.
PCB Not Ready To Accept Hybrid Model
PCB though is not ready to back down this time around, and are even looking for legal assistance. Pakistan have not hosted a full multi-nation event since the Asia Cup 2008 while the last ICC event in the country took place in 1996. India also travelled to Pakistan last time in 2008 and the Asia Cup in 2023 was held in hybrid model with India matches and knockout games happening in Sri Lanka.
Pakistan though travelled to India for World Cup 2023 and PVB wants India to return the favour by travelling to their country for Champions Trophy 2025. It would be interesting to see how things unfold on Friday, and the broadcasters would be hoping that things come on track and a mutual decision is taken for the best interest of world cricket.
