Overall, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians both have won five titles, while Kolkata Knight Riders with a win in the 2024 season, have three titles in their belt. The likes of Rajasthan Royals, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans have won each. So, few teams have dominated the IPL so far when it comes to winning the titles, and let's now see which are the five most successful captains in the IPL history. The minimum criteria of choosing the captains is that they have led in 50 matches and to select the order, the win percentage is taken into account.

MS Dhoni have been the most successful captain in the league's history. CSK have won five titles under him, and he lead CSK in 226 matches. Out of those, CSK have won 133 and have lost 91 matches. His win percentage as captain is 58.84 while second in the list is legendary Sachin Tendulkar. He led MI in the 51 matches, and won 30 of those while their were 21 losses as well. His win percentage is just lower than MS Dhoni's with 58.82.

The third in the list is Rohit Sharma. He has also win five IPL titles for MI and has led them in 158 matches. He has won 87 matches of those, while he has also lost 67 matches. His win percentage in IPL as captain is 55.06 while Gautam Gambhir who is fourth in the list is 55.03. He has also won two IPL titles as captain for KKR while he has also captained DC. He has led in the IPL 129 times, while he has won 71 matches.

The fifth in the list is Shane Warne, the man who turned the bunch of underrated youngsters into champions in the inaugural season of IPL. He has captained RR in 55 matches, and has won 30 of those. His win percentage is 54.54 which puts him in the lost of top five successful IPL captains.
