Before Kanpur Day 2 Washout, India Had To Abandon A Test Due To Constant Downpour

Before the entire second day of the India—Bangladesh 2nd Test washed out due to rain, the last instance of a full day's play being abandoned in an India Test match occurred during the four-game home Test series against South Africa back in 2015.

After a disruptive start on Day 1 of the second Test between India and Bangladesh at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, Day 2 witnessed no action due to adverse weather conditions.

Team India's bus left the stadium in just two hours of rain, and the players lost hope of any action. The worst fear came true, as Day 2's play had to be abandoned due to a wet outfield.

Once India-South Africa Test was called off due to rain!

Previously, the only Test between Afghanistan and New Zealand held in the North Indian city of Noida had to be abandoned due to rainfall and poor drainage facilities. And with Green Park Stadium also lacking the necessary drainage tools, the India-Bangladesh second Test could meet a similar fate.

It's worth noting that the recent abandonment of the Test in Noida isn't an isolated incident. In 2015, the second Test of the four-game series between India and South Africa, held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, also had to be abandoned due to rainy weather.

During the Bengaluru match, the second, third, fourth, and fifth days were all washed out due to persistent rain, leaving just one completed day of play. This severe disruption due to weather conditions significantly impacted the match.

India bowled out South Africa for 214 on the first day, and by stumps, they were 80/0 in their first innings. However, heavy rain began overnight and continued for four days, preventing further play.

Such full-day washouts expose the Indian administrator's inability to schedule games with a thorough analysis of weather conditions.

What's in store for Day 3 of the Kanpur Test?

Rain negatively impacted two days of the second Test match between India and Bangladesh, so the weather predictions for the third day don't look significantly promising.

Sunday's weather in Kanpur is expected to be wet. However, rainfall frequency and quantity won't be as severe as on Day 2. Hence, fans can expect some action, if not a full three sessions, on Day 3 as Bangladesh resumes their inning from 107/3.
