The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will likely extend a helping hand towards the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) in their road towards the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Nepal cricket board’s president Chatur Bahadur recently interacted with BCCI secretory Jay Shah on the sidelines of a WPL meeting last weekend.

Notably, the BCCI has also been providing assistance to Afghanistan cricket teams for nearly a decade.

BCCI likely to boost Nepal cricket’s infrastructure

If ongoing discussions go through, the BCCI will provide Nepal players a training center in Delhi to play some warm-up games before this year’s T20 World Cup 2024. CAN President Chatur Bahadur recently spoke and requested BCCI secretory Jay Shah for helping the emerging young talents of Nepal and to guide them with access to quality infrastructure.

The popularity of cricket in Nepal has witnessed a sudden rise and passion among fans. During last year’s Asia Cup, a number of Nepal-based spectators attended the stadiums to showcase their support for the players. Moreover, matches in Nepal are also being organized in front of near-capacity crowds, at least since the last few months.

While speaking with the PTI, a source close to the CAN said that Jay Shah has been very supportive towards Nepal cricket and has already asked president Chatur Bahadur to draft a formal request.

An Under-19 Nepal cricket team recently took part at the Under-19 World Cup 2024 in South Africa.

The senior men’s team, meanwhile, is slated to turn up in West Indies for this year’s T20 World Cup in June. They are placed in Group D alongside fellow associates Netherlands as well as Test heavyweights South Africa, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
