The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been officially suspended for a week following rising tensions between India and Pakistan. The decision was taken after an emergency situation on May 9 forced an abrupt halt to the Punjab Kings vs Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala.

The mounting security concerns and geopolitical instability, the BCCI cited player safety, logistical challenges, and the overall national climate as reasons for the suspension.

BCCI Considering Alternate Venues

The BCCI is currently monitoring developments on the border and has initiated internal discussions on further plans. According to a report by CricTracker, as quoted by Inside Sport, the board is considering shifting the remainder of the tournament to relatively secure and logistically viable cities within India. Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru have emerged as the leading options to host the rest of the season, should the tournament resume next week.

“A week is a long time when it comes to such matters. The board is chalking out a contingency plan. But the initial feelers are that the BCCI is considering the rest of the IPL matches in cities like Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru if the league restarts next week. If things de-escalate at the border, the board might also retain the original venues,” a source revealed to Inside Sport.

It is important to note that twelve league-stage games and four playoff matches remain in the tournament, and the BCCI is under pressure to conclude the season within a tight window due to the international calendar.

ECB Offers UK As Neutral Venue For Remainder Of IPL

Amid uncertainties in India, the ECB has reportedly offered to host the remainder of IPL 2025 in the United Kingdom. The proposal, driven by security considerations and aligned with India’s upcoming five-Test tour of England starting June 20, is being considered as a backup plan.

BCCI Faces Tough Call Ahead

The coming days will be crucial for the BCCI as it weighs options amid ongoing security evaluations. While the preference remains to finish the IPL within India, external solutions like the UK offer a contingency in case tensions persist.
