In a significant development coming out from the report of The Cricketer, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has offered to host the remainder of IPL 2025. George Dobell, a London based renowned journalist has stated in his report that the ECB has contacted BCCI after the Indian board's announcement of suspending the IPL for a week.
ECB Eye First Experience Of IPL In England
If the BCCI accepts the offer, the move would be unprecedented in the history of IPL. It would be the first time that the league will be played in England. Thus, UK would be the third country after South Africa and UAE to host the Indian Premier League.
Recently, the connection between ECB and IPL franchises has grown with many IPL owners buying stake in The Hundred, and now IPL's entry in UK would be another significant landmark for the cricket partnership between the two countries.
Uncertainty Continues Over Future Of IPL 2025
Currently, 57 matches of IPL 2025 have been completed while the 58th match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was stopped midway. The league stage was supposed to be completed on May 18, but the schedule is all set to get tweaks now, but it all depends on the situation in India.
There are also options of the tournament moving to UAE or South Africa again, but if the situation improves in India, then the BCCI would be eager to host it in the original country itself. However, if IPL 2025 doesn't resume after a week, then there is possibility of it being postponed till September, keeping in mind the window in the cricket calendar this year.
