In a significant development, talismanic Indian batter Virat Kohli has expressed his desire to retire from Test cricket. The legendary cricketer has apparently made up his mind, even conveying his decision to the BCCI.

Virat Kohli Eyes Test Retirement After Rohit Sharma: Report

According to The Indian Express, former captain and India's one of the most celebrated cricketers, Virat Kohli, is considering retiring from Tests ahead of the upcoming assignment on English soil.

However, as the report claims, the BCCI has asked Kohli to rethink about it, with India gearing up to tour England for a five-match Test series.

"He has made up his mind and has informed the board that he is moving on from Test cricket. The BCCI has urged him to rethink as the crucial England tour is coming up. He is yet to revert on the request," a source was quoted as saying by Express sports.

It's worth mentioning that veteran Mumbai batter Rohit Sharma recently bid adieu to the longest format. So, if Kohli retires before the England Tests, a huge void will certainly be created in the Indian batting unit.

Shubman Gill Frontrunner To Replace Rohit As Captain

According to emerging reports, promising top-order batter Shubman Gill is the frontrunner to replace Rohit Sharma as the Indian captain for the England tour. Since India have ignored Cheteshwar Pujara, Gill has been a vital cog in their Test line-up, enjoying prolific success as a number three batter.

In 59 Test innings, Gill has struck 1893 runs, including five centuries and seven half-centuries at an average of 35.06. Having said that, Kohli's retirement could leave India with a relatively inexperienced batting unit for their upcoming tour of England.
