On Sunday, September 8, BCCI announced the squad for the upcoming home Test series against Bangladesh starting on September 19. The Rohit Sharma-led side will play two Tests against The Tigers as they eye another WTC final.

The 16-member list included the likes of Rishabh Pant, who has not featured for India in Tests since December 2022. Also, Akash Deep, who took nine wickets in the ongoing Duleep Trophy edition, earned a call-up, while Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will spearhead the seam attack.

Jasprit Bumrah Dropped As India Vice-Captain

Senior members like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, R Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja are too present in the list, alongside KL Rahul, who too stitched a fifty featuring for India A. However, the list released by BCCI did not mention any vice-captain, which has raised several eyebrows.

When India last played their Test against England earlier this year, Jasprit Bumrah was named the vice-captain. But, no such update has been provided by the board or the management on who will be Rohit's deputy for the Bangladesh tour.

Shubman Gill Captained India A

There is also a possibility that Gautam Gambhir and his management might explore more options before coming to any decision. Recently, Shubman Gill had also replaced Hardik Pandya as India's white-ball vice-captain. Thus, it is a possibility that the 25-year-old might be looked at as one of the contenders to replace Rohit as India's captain in the future.

Recently, Gill also captained India A in the ongoing Duleep Trophy. However, his side suffered a 76-runs defeat, as Gill too failed to perform with the bat.
