In the latest news, Afghanistan's preparations for their historic one-off Test against New Zealand have faced a severe blow, as star batter Ibrahim Zadran is ruled out due to an ankle injury.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed the news late Sunday, just a day before the Test match. Zadran sustained the injury during the team's final practice session ahead of the encounter.

Ibrahim Zadran To Miss One-Off Test Vs NZ

It is important to mention that, the 22-year-old opener, will also miss the upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa, which is scheduled to take place in the UAE in September.

This marks the first time Afghanistan will face South Africa in a bilateral series outside of ICC tournaments. The ODI series will be hosted by the ACB at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

This adds to more problems for Afghanistan as they are already missing their star spinner, Rashid Khan for the one-off test match.

Ibrahim Zadran has featured in seven test matches for Afghanistan and has been a crucial player at the top of the order. Earlier this year, he scored his maiden Test century against Sri Lanka, which further cemented his role as a key player for the national team.

ACB has not yet announced a replacement for Zadran in the ODI series against South Africa. The absence of both Zadran and Rashid Khan has raised concerns over Afghanistan's ability to compete at full strength in the upcoming fixtures, particularly in the three ODIs, where they will be facing a strong South African team.

Rashid Khan To Not Feature In Tests Vs NZ

Earlier, Afghanistan's star spinner Rashid Khan was left out of the preliminary squad for the New Zealand Test series.

According to several reports, Rashid Khan is unlikely to be available for Tests until November. He has been advised by doctors and physicians to avoid playing the longer format after undergoing back surgery last year. ACB wants to avoid risks with Rashid Khan, especially with the Champions Trophy 2025 in sight.
