Indian cricketer Shubman Gill recently gifted his signed jersey to a super fan in Bengaluru after the completion of the opening match of the Duleep Trophy 2024 season. Leading India A at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, his team failed to track down its 275-run target and fell short by 76 runs to Abhimanyu Easwaran-led India B.

Gill himself punched out underwhelming scores of just 25 and 21 across both innings of the match to commence his pre-Test season on a forgettable note.

Designated to lead India A in the Duleep Trophy 2024 season, Shubman Gill’s troops lost to India B by 76 runs at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Shortly after the defeat on September 8, also the day of his 25th birthday, the cricketer was spotted at the team hotel gifting away one of his signed jerseys to a super fan.

Gill also posed for a picture with the fan in question and the heartwarming click soon went viral across India’s cricketing fraternity on the microblogging site X.

Shubman Gill, who last played a Test match back in March this year during India’s home series against England, has been tipped to reprise his role in the national team in their upcoming Test ventures. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the Indian cricket team is scheduled to host Bangladesh in a two-match Test series at home later this month.

The Indian team will also host New Zealand in three Test matches before taking flight to Australia for a blockbuster five-match challenge for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Each of the aforementioned fixtures constitutes India’s share in the 2023-25 ICC WTC cycle.

The ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 season is designed to serve as a dress rehearsal for Indian players before heading out for the impending Tests. While Shubman Gill fell cheaply in both innings in the opening match of the tournament, he did manage to find a spot in the India squad for Bangladesh Tests.
