In the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2024 match between India A and India B at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Akash Deep stole the limelight for his performance. 

India B, batting first, put 321 runs on the board, courtesy of Musheer Khan's 181-run knock on debut. However, Akash Deep too shone and took four wickets in the first innings, which featured the scalps of Rishabh Pant, Nitish Reddy, Navdeep Saini, and Yash Dayal.

India A, in reply, tumbled for 231 runs and gave India B a 90-runs lead. When the Shubman Gill-led side wanted their bowlers to step up the most, Deep took the responsibility and registered a five-wicket haul.

His spell left India B crippled and restricted them to just 184 runs. Deep registered the figures of 5/56 in 14 overs. His most noticeable wicket came of Washington Sundar as his magical delivery castled Sundar's stumps. 

On the 3rd ball of the 39th over, Deep bowled a ripper as he pitched it outside off, but the ball nipped back in to rattle Sundar's off-stump.

After the Duleep Trophy, the selectors will gather to pick the squad for the upcoming home Test series against Bangladesh starting on September 19. The ongoing domestic tournament will also act as a trial for the players, who have not cemented their side in the Indian team and Akash Deep is one of them. 

It is worth noting that the right-arm seamer has featured in a solitary Test for India as he played against England in February 2024. Thus, he too would be eyeing and hoping to find his place in the upcoming squad for the Bangladesh series.
