India secured an impressive victory over England in the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, booking their place in the finals against South Africa in Barbados.

This marks India's third appearance in the ICC T20 World Cup finals. Dhoni led India claimed their inaugural title in 2007  beating Pakistan in final, but were runners-up to Sri Lanka in the 2014 final. Today, India defeated England by a margin of 68 runs to advance.

Batting first, India posted a total of 171-7, with Rohit Sharma scoring another crucial fifty and Suryakumar Yadav providing valuable support. This score proved to be quite substantial on the slow Guyana pitch, setting a strong target.

In India's defense of 172, India started with Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah, but England's captain Jos Buttler began to score runs steadily.

It was at this juncture that captain Rohit Sharma made a critical decision, introducing Axar Patel into the attack. Patel made an immediate impact, dismissing Jos Buttler with his very first delivery, which proved pivotal in tilting the match in India's favor.

Axar Patel claimed 3 wickets and shared insights into his game strategy following the match.

"The wicket was stopping and keeping low, so tried to bowl in the right areas. The wicket was slow, so I tried to bowl slower in this match, it worked for me. Wouldn't have worked had I bowled quicker, would have been easier for their batters. Our batters told us that the wicket wasn't easy, so 160 was a good total according to us," Axar Patel said post-match interview.

The Indian spinners capitalized on the slow nature of the pitch to their advantage, which ultimately made a crucial difference in the match.

Prior to the World Cup, Rohit Sharma had advocated for including four spinners in the squad, and today's performance underscored why Rohit's decision was justified.
