South Africa has buried the ghosts that prevented them from reaching a World Cup final today. Aiden Markram led South Africa to destroy the dark horses of the tournament, Afghanistan, by 9 wickets to reach the finals of the T20 World Cup 2024.

South Africa has always been a team that luck never favored, historically losing many crucial games in World Cups. But this time, history changed.

Markram's team has completely dominated the tournament so far, not losing a single game. They will now wait to see if either India or England will be their rivals in the final.

Markram opts to stay fearless for the final

In the post-game talk, Aiden Markram spoke about the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup final. Acknowledging that South Africa had never reached a final before, Markram expressed his intention to approach it fearlessly.

"It is one more step for us, it is an opportunity we have never had, nothing to be scared of. This win means a lot, we have some world class players in the side but like I said, it takes a whole squad to be able to deliver such a performance."

Batting first, Afghanistan was dismantled by the Proteas' bowling attack, being all out for just 56 runs in 11.5 overs. Except for Azmatullah, none of the Afghan batters reached double digits. Jansen and Shamsi took 3 wickets each for the Proteas, while Rabada and Nortje claimed 2 wickets each.

South Africa chased down the target in 8.5 overs, winning by 9 wickets. Captain Markram remained not out with 23 runs in the chase.

In the second semi finals, India will face defending champions England at Providence stadium.
