In a historic development, 13 year old first class cricketer from Bihar, Vaibhav Suryavanshi was shortlisted for the IPL 2025 mega auction. He is set to become the youngest player to be called under the hammer in IPL auction’s history.

IPL 2025 mega auction will be held at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on November 24 and 25. Ahead of the highly anticipated event, a total of 1574 players had registered for the auction. However, all 10 franchises together shortlisted a final list of 574 players that will go under the hammer. Out of this, 366 are Indians and 208 are overseas players. Notably, 204 slots are available with 10 franchises combined.

Meanwhile, 13 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi grabbed headlines by being the youngest ever player to be named in the auction. The kid from Bihar has managed to find a place as 491st pick and has been placed in 68th set under uncapped player category.

Who is Vaibhav Suryavanshi?

Vaibhav Suryavanshi first rose to fame when he made his debut earlier this year in January for the Bihar Cricket Team in the prestigious Ranji Trophy at just 12 years of age, thus becoming the fourth youngest player to feature in the domestic event.

Born and raised in Tajpur village, Vaibhav began his cricketing journey at 9. He quickly rose to the ranks to find a place in Bihar’s senior team. Across 5 first-class matches, the left-hander scored 100 runs with a 63.29 strike rate.

Later, in September 2024, Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his debut for India U19 team in a youth Test against Australia U19 and and smashed a century off just 58 balls, with 14 fours and 4 sixes.

However, there is some controversy surrounding his age. Shortly after his Ranji debut, an interview of his surfaced on the internet where he referred to himself as 14. This raised suspicion of age fraud. However, neither Bihar cricket board nor BCCI addressed the claims which till date remains unproven.
