Ayush Mhatre has gained the spotlight and has been the talk of the town ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. As the preparations for the marquee tournament are in full swing, CSK has turned its attention to one of Mumbai cricket's rising star, Ayush Mhatre.

The 17-year-old young opener has caught the eye of none other than former CSK captain MS Dhoni, who has been impressed by his performances in recent First-Class matches. In a strategic move, CSK has invited the promising batsman for trials at their High-Performance Centre in Navalur ahead of the much-anticipated IPL auction scheduled to be held in Jeddah on November 24 and 25.

Ayush Mhatre's Remarkable First-Class Career

It would not be wrong to say that Ayush Mhatre has something different in him as he has been noticed by none other than MS Dhoni. Earlier this year, the young cricketer made headlines with his exceptional performance in domestic cricket. At this young age, he made his First-Class debut for Mumbai earlier this season during the Irani Cup, and in no time gained a lot of attention for his significant play.

In his maiden First-Class season, he amassed 321 runs in five matches, and maintained a commendable average of 35.66. This impressive run includes one century and one fifty, that showcase his ability to anchor innings and deliver under pressure.

One of Mhatre’s standout moments came in his third First-Class match, where he played a stunning innings of 176 against Maharashtra. This performance, caught the attention because the young player showcased composure and aggressive stroke play.

In a significant development, MS Dhoni, who has been a central figure in CSK’s success over the years, reportedly took a keen interest in Mhatre’s progress. The franchise has decided to invite Mhatre to their trials as they look to rebuild a squad for the upcoming season.

CSK’s CEO Kasi Viswanathan formally requested permission from the MCA for Mhatre to attend the trials, which are set to take place at CSK’s High-Performance Centre in Navalur. On that note, it will interesting to see if CSK will opt for the young opener for the upcoming season.
