IPL 2025 mega auction to be conducted by Mallika Sagar [Source: @IPL]
Mallika Sagar, the trailblazer woman auctioneer, who made history as the first woman to conduct an IPL auction, will continue to conduct the auctioning of the 2025 IPL mega auction. The event will take place on November 24 and 25, 2024, in Jeddah, marking another significant milestone in the league’s global footprint.
The cricketing world is abuzz with the news of IPL 2025 mega auction as fans wait for the overhaul of squads. A total of 1,574 players have registered themselves for the auction, including 1,165 Indians and 409 overseas. Among these, 320 are capped players whereas 1224 are uncapped and 30 of them have come from associate nations.
The auction is scheduled for November 24 and 25 at Jeddah City in Saudi Arabia. The venue was changed from Riyadh to Jeddah at the last minute due to logistical issues. All 10 franchise owners and management will assemble in the city a couple of days prior to the event.
Mallika Sagar to continue as auctioneer for IPL 2025
Meanwhile, Hugh Edmeades, the auctioneer who conducted IPL auction for many years, fainted and fell off the stage during the IPL 2023 auction. Due to health reasons, Hugh was replaced by Mallika Sagar for the IPL 2024 auction.
According to TOI, Mallika Sagar is set to continue as an auctioneer for the IPL 2025 mega auction. The 49-year-old has a wealth of experience, having successfully conducted the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction and stepping in as the auctioneer for the IPL 2024 mini-auction, replacing veteran Hugh Edmeades.
Besides these major league experiences, she also handled the Pro Kabaddi League auction for which she became the first female auctioneer.
The 10 franchises will go into the auction with a combined purse of ₹641.5 crore to fill 204 available slots, 70 of which are overseas players.
IPL 2025 to have separate sets for marquee players
The highly anticipated IPL 2025 Mega Auction will showcase an innovative twist, with the BCCI introducing two distinct sets of marquee players. The two marquee sets will see eight to nine players each from some of the game's biggest stars. In this set, one could see KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, and Ravichandran Ashwin.
