Dasun Shanaka is set to lead the Sri Lanka team in the upcoming Pakistan T20I tri-series 2025. The star all-rounder was appointed to the role by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) after regular skipper Charith Asalanka was ruled out of the series owing to illness.

Asalanka and fast bowler Asitha Fernando are both suffering from illness, and the two cricketers will be flying back home to Sri Lanka, as confirmed by the SLC.

Dasun Shanaka steps up for Pakistan T20I tri-series

Vice-captain Dasun Shanaka is set to cover for regular skipper Charith Asalanka as Sri Lanka’s new captain for the upcoming Pakistan T20I tri-series 2025. The SLC confirmed the same through an official statement on Monday, November 17, i.e., just a day prior to the launch of the tri-series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.

It is worth noting that SLC announced Sri Lanka’s squad for the tri-series earlier this month, and the travelling group also features the likes of Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Pathum Nissanka, Kamindu Mendis, spin wizard Wanindu Hasaranaga, among others. Following the last-minute leadership adjustment, here is a look at the updated Sri Lanka squad for the Pakistan T20I tri-series 2025.

Sri Lanka squad for Pakistan T20I tri-series 2025:

Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera, Kamil Mishara, Dasun Shanaka (c), Kamindu Mendis, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Janith Liyanage, Wanindu Hasaranaga, Maheesh Theekshana, Dushan Hemantha, Dushmantha Chameera, Nuwan Thushara and Eshan Malinga.

Dasun Shanaka holds captaincy experience for Sri Lanka, considering the star all-rounder was first appointed as his nation’s skipper back in September 2019. Up until 2023, the cricketer led Sri Lanka to 22 wins at the expense of 24 losses from 48 T20I matches, which included two tied results.

Under the leadership of Dasun Shanaka, the Sri Lanka team will commence its Pakistan T20I tri-series 2025 campaign with a match against Zimbabwe on November 20 in Rawalpindi.
