Pakistan completed a 3-0 sweep over the visiting Sri Lankan team by clinching yet another comprehensive win in Rawalpindi. Opener Fakhar Zaman and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan struck exemplary half-centuries in the run-chase after a stunning three-wicket haul from fast bowler Mohammad Wasim.
Here, we take a look at the entire highlights of the third ODI of the three-match series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, as it panned out at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on Sunday, November 16.
Mohammad Wasim and Haris Rauf restrict Sri Lanka to 211
Sri Lanka started off with a 55-run opening partnership between Pathum Nissanka and Kamil Mishara in just 8.1 overs. However, Pakistan fast bowlers Haris Rauf and Mohammad Wasim soon rendered Sri Lanka’s confident start in vain by dismissing an opener each. Captain Kusal Mendis and number four Sadeera Samarawickrama also had their structured innings halted by Wasim and Faisal Akram respectively as Sri Lanka slipped from 55-0 to 123-4.
Sri Lanka’s troubles worsened further, as a wicket each from Faheem Ashraf (1-43) and Shaheen Afridi (1-36) as well as a three-wicket haul from Mohammad Wasim (3-47) ensured the visitors folded up for just 211 in 45.2 overs. Faisal Akram and Rauf also added a wicket to their tally late in the innings to finish with two wickets each. For Sri Lanka, no batter managed to list a half-century, with Samarawickrama being their biggest benefactor through his calculated 48.
Fakhar Zaman bludgeons, Rizwan anchors as Pakistan win
Fakhar Zaman bludgeoned a swift 55 from 45 balls with eight boundaries despite losing opening partner Haseebullah Khan for a 12-ball duck to Maheesh Theekshana. Babar Azam looked threatening with his 34 from 52 balls, but the legendary Pakistani batter was knocked over by Jeffrey Vandersay, who also curtailed Fakhar Zaman’s belligerence.
At 101-3, soon to be 115-4 following the fall of Agha Salman to Vandersay (3-42), Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan crafted an unbroken 100-run stand with Hussain Talat (42* off 57). Rizwan himself remained unbeaten at 61* off 92 balls to steer Pakistan to a six-wicket win in 44.4 overs.
