Capping an eventful day in the world of cricket, here we take a look at five of the biggest cricketing news that emerged out of Tuesday, October 28.
Alyssa Healy inches closer to recovery
Australia Women captain Alyssa Healy is inching closer to her recovery just in time before her team’s 2025 World Cup semifinal match against hosts India. Earlier this tournament, the legendary wicketkeeper-batter suffered a calf injury during a training session for Australia. Alyssa Healy recently completed a fitness test, and gave positive indications during her recovery phase as she faced net bowlers in a batting session in the nets. Healy’s injury, meanwhile, forced her to miss Australia’s final two league stage games of the World Cup against England and South Africa.
England hopeful of Ecclestone’s semifinal return
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has given Sophie Ecclestone’s injury update before England’s 2025 Women World Cup semifinal match against South Africa. During England’s match against New Zealand a couple of days ago in Vizag, Ecclestone coped deep discomfort on her shoulder while fielding. She walked off the field a while later without finishing her spell, leaving the ECB sweating hard over her update before England’s all-important match. The ECB has now remarked that Ecclestone has a minor injury to the joint next to her collarbone, and there is nothing serious as feared earlier.
Mohammad Rizwan protests against central contract: Report
Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has reportedly refused to sign the central contract of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Rizwan was recently removed by the PCB as Pakistan ODI captain, replacing him with fast bowler Shaheen Afridi. As per Samma TV, the Pakistan cricketer is refusing to sign in a bid to protest against his T20I omission from the national team. He is included in the B Category of the central contract alongside fellow senior pro Babar Azam. Mohammad Rizwan is also the only player out of the pool of 30 players who is refusing to sign the contract.
James Anderson receives knighthood
Former England fast bowler James Anderson has been knighted during a ceremony at the Windsor Castle. The cricketer received his knighthood from Princess Anne for his services towards English cricket. James Anderson, a veteran of 188 Test matches during his playing days, picked up 704 wickets during his illustrious career to remain the most successful fast bowler in the history of the format. With 991 sticks across all formats, Anderson is also the third most successful bowler after spin wizards Muttiah Muralitharan and late Shane Warne in terms of number of wickets.
Mohammed Shami picks up five against Gujarat in Ranji
Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami dismantled Gujarat with an electrifying five-wicket haul for Bengal in the Elite Group C match of the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season. The speedster picked up figures of 5-38 from 10 overs to complete eight for the match, as Bengal registered a comprehensive 141-run win at the Eden Gardens. With his latest spell, Mohammed Shami has now snared 15 wickets in just four innings of the tournament as the legendary paceman continues to fight on amid his national snub by the Indian selection committee over injury concerns.
