Mohammed Shami has been on a roll in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season as the Bengal pacer once again proved his worth by taking a sensational five-wicket haul vs Gujarat to silence chief selector, Ajit Agarkar. The pacer was omitted from the Indian team, owing to fitness issues, but Shami responded with the ball by dismantling Gujarat and winning the game for his team.

In Gujarat’s first innings, Shami swung the ball both ways as the pacer looked in rhythm, and he grabbed 3 crucial wickets. However, the best was yet to come as the pacer was at his absolute best in the second innings to win the game for his team. Gujarat needed 327 to win the contest, but Shami picked up 5 for 38 to help Bengal clinch the match by 141 runs.

This season, Shami has played two matches and already has 15 wickets, with an average of 10.46 as the pacer has been in sensational form.

Shami's performance silences Agarkar

With a stunning performance against Gujarat, Shami made a strong case for his inclusion in the Test squad vs South Africa. Shami last played for India during the Champions Trophy 2025, and this match-winning spell was a direct response to Agarkar’s comments on Shami.

Agarkar stated that Shami needs more game time to be considered for a recall in the Indian team, and this statement didn’t go well with the pacer, who replied by saying: “Let him say whatever he wants. You have seen how I bowled. It is all in front of your eyes.

The duo have exchanged war of words in recent times, and this stunning match-winning spell was a testimony to Shami’s brilliance with the red-ball, and the selectors cannot ignore him for the upcoming red-ball series.
